Review The Ritz Carlton Cancún

After three weeks of traveling around the world and stays in Hong Kong, Macau, Hawaii and Las Vegas we had chosen Cancún in Mexico as the last location of our around the world trip before we would go back to Europe.

I had booked 6 nights in a Club Level room at the Ritz-Carlton Cancún. We got affordable flights in United Business Class from Las Vegas to Cancún via Los Angeles. Our flight was leaving Las Vegas very early and we landed at L.A. Airport just in time to watch a nice sunrise at the United Lounge LAX.

We arrived at Cancún Airport at 4:00 PM after a smooth 4,5 hour flight. The hotel driver was already waiting for us to take us to the Ritz-Carlton.

The hotel is located at the beach strip next to the city of Cancún called “Zona Hotelera” where you can find many big hotels and resorts next to each other.

Arriving at the lobby a friendly concierge guided us to the Club Level at the top floor where we checked in. To access the Club Level you get a golden key which you have to use to unlock the button in the elevator.

At the check in desk we were offered cold towels and a glass of champagne. The staff was really friendly and the agent who had reached out to me by email a couple of days before we arrived to ask for any special arrangements, had organized a birthday cake, a bottle of champagne, a spa voucher and beautiful flowers for Kasia waiting in our room when we came in. Even though her birthday was more than a week before we got there. That was a really nice gesture and it came without any extra charges.

The room was nicely furnished, very clean and had a balcony with a beautiful beach and sea view.

After taking a quick shower we started exploring the hotel. Our first stop was the Club Lounge at our floor. The Club Lounge offers the following food presentations:

Breakfast, 7 a.m. – 11 a.m.
Lunch, 12 p.m. – 2 p.m.
Light Snacks, 2 p.m. – 4 p.m.
Cocktails & Hors oeuvres, 5 p.m. – 8 p.m.
Chocolates and Cordials, 8 p.m. – 10 p.m.

The ambience of the whole resort is really classic-stylish and very clean. From the Club Lounge you have beautiful views on the sunset and the food is really great and very exquisite. I liked the tequila selection in the Club Lounge which they bring out for lunch and the chocolate fountain at the evening buffet.

The pool area and the beach are also in perfect condition. Very attentive staff, you get offered chairs and towels without any waiting time and they also serve delicious food and drinks.

The Ritz-Carlton also has several high-class restaurants on property. From dinner at the beach, French cuisine, sushi or delicious cocktails there is everything you could wish for.

My favorite cocktail was the Cowboy’s Breakfast at the D-Lounge.

During the day they offer complimentary cocktail-mixing classes at the pool.

And if you want to go on a tour or book any watersports activities the staff will arrange everything for you. I booked a fishing trip which was really nice.

The Ritz-Carlton Cancún is also sponsoring a sea turtle release station which is located next to the hotel. During hatching time hundreds of baby turtles are being released to the sea every evening after sunset. The hotel guest can help releasing the baby sea turtles. We were lucky to have this great experience.

Bottom line:

The Ritz-Carlton Cancún is a beautiful luxurious hotel which offers all amenities you could expect from a 5 star property.

We had a wonderful time during our 6 days stay. Especially if you are looking for a perfectly relaxed beach vacation with excellent food and drinks you can’t go wrong chosing the Ritz-Carlton. The Club Lounge with its broad variety of culinary delights is highly recommendable. The only negative aspect that comes to my mind is that you will inevitably gain weight.

The room prices are quite expensive for Cancún but the quality of the food, the service and the overall experience justifies the higher price.
